Mystery solved...sort of

This morning was Blair's appointment with the pediatric pulmonologist. Drum roll please.....

Blair's official diagnosis: asthma and silent reflux. I'm torn on how I feel about this. Obviously, it could have been much worse - we were very worried that her bronchitis may have turned into pneumonia. Thank goodness the chest x-ray disproved our fear. On the other hand, the pulmonologist was quick to explain that while Blair would likely outgrow the asthma sometime between ages 2 and 10 (what a window, huh?), the treatments he was prescribing for her would only lessen the symptoms she currently has - coughing, wheezing and rattling. I guess I'm a little frustrated because I was really hoping that she would have an easily "curable" condition..."lessening the symptoms" wasn't on my mind. Oh well...at least we know and can move forward with making her more comfortable. One bit of good news the doctor delivered: she should be fine during warmer weather.

Blair put on a show for her new doctor...he was talking to us and explaining what he thought was wrong, how he wanted to treat it, what our expectations should be, etc. and the whole time Blair was blowing big, juicy, loud raspberries. It was hilarious -she did it for at least five minutes straight. The doctor had to pause several times and giggle.

On another note - Blair's 6 month "well-baby" visit was yesterday. Six months - how the heck did that happen? Anyway, she weighed in at 16 pounds, 13 ounces, putting her in the 51 percentile for full-term 6 month old babies; she measured 25 inches long, putting her in the 22 percentile; and though I forget what her head measurement was, she is in the 65 percentile for head circumference! She's really catching up quickly. We were looking at pictures from when Blair was born and in the hospital the other night...she doesn't even look like the same baby - it's amazing and we feel truly blessed to have such a happy and relatively healthy baby. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and prayers!

Hi Wendy! Thanks for the comment on my blog. I had just read your's for the first time a couple of days before that and had been meaning to send you an email about baby Blair. I followed you guys when Blair was born and how you were doing through Shelby, but hadn't ever seen a picture, so was so happy to see that Lisa posted a link to your site on her blog. Blair is a pretty little girl. I know she's growing up fast, but it only gets more and more fun with each stage, so you have a lot to look forward to! And to answer your question about whether or not it gets easier to leave them - the answer is no! Lucas is two and we don't even bother with a sitter because it stresses me out too much to think of him getting upset. It is starting to get a LITTLE easier now that he is starting to talk.. so maybe by the time they are 3 we will be able to leave them and have a good time : )
I look forward to keeping up with you guys - I love all of your posts - they are so entertaining : )
